In New Study Reveals Prevailing Skepticism Among US Adults About Social Media News

A major problem that the world is facing these days has to do with the manner in which we acquire news about current events and the like. A lot of the news that we see on social media has been manipulated in some way, shape or form, and a new study has revealed that most adults in the US are skeptical about any kind of news that they end up seeing on social media which is the sort of thing that can cause problems for a lot of social media sites out there by preventing them from being as trustworthy as they need to be to enjoy an actual future in this industry.

This study was conducted by the Pew Research Center and it involved a survey of over 9,000 adults in the US. Over half of the respondents said that they got their news from social media, but over half of these people who use social media for the news said that they don’t trust the accuracy of the information that they are receiving. This means that a quarter of the people responding to this survey did not trust their main source of news, something that could create a lot of confusion and give malicious actors even more opportunities to create misinformation than might have been the case otherwise.

Facebook and YouTube seem to be the most popular sources of news, but Twitter has been finding a disproportionate amount of success in this regard. Only 25% of respondents said that they used Twitter on a regular basis, but 59% of them said that they used it as their main source of news which is a higher proportion than any other social media platform managed to attain thereby indicating that Twitter might be a more trusted source of news due to the direct nature of its communication options.
