YouTube Originals will soon be Available to all Users for Free!
YouTube Originals will soon be Available to all Users for Free!YouTube intends on making its Originals fully ad-supported and free-of-cost for users to watch. This was also confirmed by Chief Business Officer Robert Kyncl, who recently attended the YouTube Brandcast event and Kate Stanford, Head of Global Advertiser Marketing at YouTube, in a blog post.
"All new YouTube Original series and specials will soon be available for fans around the world to watch for free with ads — just like they enjoy other content on the platform...This gives advertisers more opportunities to engage with a broader audience, drive meaningful results and align with top Hollywood talent and YouTube creators.", announced YouTube.During the event, the company also demonstrated its plans for advertisers. It’s a well-known fact that YouTube has been fully committed for the last several months to implement an ad-supported model for generating revenue for its Original program. Kyncl’s acknowledgement further clarified that it’s actually happening, starting with the upcoming Originals.
From Hollywood celebrities to top YouTube creators, YouTube Originals deliver the content audiences love. We saw this reflected in last year’s star-powered slate, which amassed over 2.5 billion views across 50 shows like Will Smith's "The Jump" or Liza Koshy’s "Liza on Demand.", explained YouTube team. However, it doesn’t mean that the paid subscriptions will phase out that easily. Things will take time before the ad-supported model can be fully brought into play.
That being said, the first two seasons of Cobra Kai will be made free to watch for users starting this August for a specific timeframe.
Kyncl said that at a time when almost every other media company is thinking of introducing paid subscription packages, YouTube is doing the complete opposite by making its content free for all.
Speaking about the new and exciting original projects in development, Kyncl brought up the third season of Cobra Kai, “What The Fit” featuring Kevin Hart and an undisclosed project with Justin Bieber. Other projects in development include a Paris Hilton documentary, an interactive special titled “A Heist with Markiplier” and a Dude Perfect Documentary. Numerous other Originals are being created too.
YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki also spoke at the event. One of the main topics she addressed was the removal of misinformation and hate speech from the platform. Wojcicki confirmed that tackling this issue was her top priority.
She also added that millions of such videos are being taken down by YouTube every quarter, before they could even rack up a single view. Wojcicki believes that although there is still considerable amount of work that needs to be done, the company is fully committed to it.
