Spring is here, but winter is coming. In April, Snapchatters got hyped for new Game of Thrones, celebrated Easter, showed love for their four-legged friends on National Pet Day, and paid tribute to Notre-Dame Cathedral.

Global: Trending Topics

Religion was the grand unifier this month on Snapchat. Countries as far flung as the UK, Nigeria, and Australia celebrated Easter with plenty of egg hunts and candy for good measure. The United Arab Emirates sang and snacked on the road to Ramadan with Hag Al Laila, and India celebrated nine days of Chaitra Navratri. In France, Snapchatters reacted most to the Notre Dame fire, paying tribute to the centuries-old cathedral.

US: Trending Topics

This month, US Snapchatters put in work to prep for prom, lining up looks and dates. They also took time to give props to the planet on Earth Day and shout out pets, siblings, and admins on their respective days of recognition.

US: Trending Entertainment

Don’t worry, this is a spoiler-free zone. In April, people flocked to the epic openings of Avengers: EndgameShazam, and Game of Thrones season 8. Ghosts and zombie cats terrorized small towns and moviegoers in The Curse of La Lloronaand Pet Sematary. And the NBA playoffs captured the country’s attention, landing a top spot on this month’s trend list.

US: Trending Celebrities

The Beyhive went wild for the April release of Beyoncé’s Homecoming, a behind-the-scenes look at her extraordinary 2018 Coachella performance. Between BTS’s appearances on SNL and onstage at Coachella with Ariana Grande, 2019’s hottest boy band and their song “Boys with Luv” continued to trend. Snapchatters also watched Tiger Woods and Damian Lillard own the Masters and NBA playoffs. Country legend and celebrity dad Billy Ray Cyrus was also back in the spotlight, thanks to his “Old Town Road” collab with Lil Nas X.

US: Trending Viral Challenges

The #FeelingCuteChallenge picked up speed (and selfies) in April, sparking thousands of tongue-in-cheek, hyper-specific spins on the “Feeling cute, might delete later, IDK” joke format. And everyone from teachers to cats to babies joined in the Hit the Woah dance challenge, where the dancer waits for a beat drop to make a quick, small circular motion with their fists and freeze.

Canada Spotlight: Trending Topics

This month, we’re showcasing what trended in Canada throughout April. Snapchatters in Canada showed their siblings, pets, and planet some love; cheered on their beloved Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL playoffs; and celebrated Good Friday and Easter.
